This unit of competency describes the skills and knowledge required to provide a first aid response to a casualty. The unit applies to all workers who may be required to provide a first aid response in a range of situations, include community and workplace settings.
Students who successfully complete this nationally recognised training will be awarded the statement of attainment for:
HLTAID003 Provide first aid
HLTAID001 Provide cardiopulmonary resuscitation
HLTFA311A Apply first aid

Re-certification recommended every 3 years
This unit deals with the skills and knowledge required to provide an advanced first aid response, including management of the incident and other first aiders, until the arrival of medical or other assistance.
The unit applies to workers who may be required to provide, coordinate and manage a first aid response across a range of complex situations, include community and workplace settings.

Initial course time: Although there a different options to undertake this course SaveLife offers the completion of a pre-course study and 7-8 hours face to face practical course.
This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to use specialised equipment in the provision of resuscitation in line with the Australian Resuscitation Council (ARC) guidelines.
This unit applies to workers who may be required to use specialised equipment to provide resuscitation in a range
of complex situations, include community and workplace settings.

This course covers what is required to assist a person suffering an anaphylactic reaction until the arrival of medical assistance. Application of this unit relates to the use of adrenaline auto-injecting devices, (e.g. EpiPen®/Anapen®).
The unit covers the recognition, management, prevention and risk minimisation strategies related to allergic reactions and anaphylaxis. It provides the outcomes required to develop and implement a management plan to reduce the risk of severe reactions in individuals diagnosed with anaphylaxis.
Pre-requisites - HLTFA311A: Apply first aid
Initial course time: 3-4 hours face to face and assessment
Re-certification: Industry recommends the renewal every 3 years, however due to certain industry requirements some may be required to refresh this every 12 months by completing a 1.5 hour face to face and assessment
This unit covers the competency required to administer restricted analgesics as a part of a medically supervised first responder organisation. State/territory licensing procedures for the storage and administration of drugs apply to this unit.
The application of this unit in the workplace covers the administration of restricted pain relief such as analgesics and aspirin, according to a medically endorsed protocol. The unit is typically relevant for personnel from emergency services and/or volunteer organisations or organisations that provide a medically supervised first aid service.
Pre-requistes - HLTFA311A: Apply first aid or HLTFA211A Provide basic emergency life support
Initial course time: 5 hours face to face training
Re-certification recommend every 3 years for experienced first aiders by completing a 2.5 hours face to face training
The unit applies to educators and support staff working within an education and care setting who are required to respond to a first aid emergency, including asthmatic and anaphylactic emergencies. This unit of competency will contribute towards approved first aid, asthma and anaphylaxis training under the Education and Care Services National Law, and the Education and Care Services National Regulation (2011).

This unit covers the competency required to confine small workplace emergencies. Small workplace emergencies may include such incidents as a small fire that can be controlled using a nearby fire extinguisher; or a chemical spill that can be controlled using workplace personal protective clothing and equipment, and a small spill kit; or a workplace vehicle accident where there is no significant
injury or damage.

Initial course time: Minimum 3 hours - If conducted as a stand alone course and not part of a fire workplace stream of training.
Re-certification recommended every 12 months - refresher course 1.5 to 3 hours.
This unit covers the competency required to identify and prevent the development of workplace emergency situations, or to minimise their consequences, and to report if emergency protection systems are compromised.
Pre-requistes - NIL
Initial course time: Minimum 3 hours - If conducted as a standalone course and not part of a fire workplace stream of training.
Re-certification recommended every 12 months - refresher course 1.5 to 3 hours.
This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to provide preparation for an emergency situation, report potential and real emergencies, respond and evacuate from a work area. This unit covers the competency required to recognise emergencies in the workplace, to report emergencies and to take appropriate action.

Initial course time: 4-5 hours - If conducted as a stand alone course and not part of a fire workplace stream of training.
Re-certification recommended every 12 months - refresher course 3 hours.
This qualification covers workers who provide first response care in line with Australian Resuscitation Council Guidelines. This involves provision of first aid care. Occupational titles may include:
Community based first responder
Volunteer first aider
Emergency medical responder
EMS first responder
Workplace first responder
Pre-requistes - NIL
Course time: The volume of learning for this qualification is typically 0.5 – 2 years (Australian Qualifications Framework).
This course requires a combination of both home study and face to face hours. Home study is approximately 63 hours. Practical face to face approximately 24 hours. This would equate to approximately 87 hours or the equivalent of 2.3 weeks of full time training. Home study hours may vary depending on experience of the student. To ensure currency of learning, participants will have a maximum of 2 years from the date of enrolment to complete their qualification. If participants need more time to complete assessments, they may request an extension in writing.
